Since its establishment, The City School has placed emphasis on programmes dealing with the professional development of its teachers. Consequently, a systematic in-service teacher training programme, also known as the Professional Development Programme, was introduced. The Professional Development Programme of The City School aims to build the confidence, knowledge, and skills of teachers to enhance their effectiveness. In addition, the programme has also enabled teachers to realize their strengths and develop their career paths at the school, regional, and national management levels.
The City School Professional Development Programme obtained international recognition with the introduction in 1996 of The City School - University of Strathclyde Applied Professional Studies Programme. This development has placed The City School at the forefront of large-scale professional development organizations. The City School has also established Professional Development Programmes with the Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Edinburgh and the University of Strathclyde in the UK.
The City School experience in developing, organising, and delivering comprehensive teacher training activities has placed The City School second to none in Pakistan in the field of continuing professional teacher education. These popular and successful programmes are offered not only to The City School teachers but to teachers from other schools and institutions of learning as well. The courses consist of Certificate and Diploma awarded by the University of Strathclyde. These courses, with their subsequent school-based assignments, provide an ideal opportunity for teachers to follow a challenging course attuned to their needs in the workplace.
